Men’s Track & Field Place Second at Keogh Invitational, Combine for Four Event Victories

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's track & field team combined for four first place finishes to place second overall at the Keogh Invitational on Saturday.

Aiden Tomov, Matthew Gutow and Matthew Fleming headlined the meet with first place finishes for the Garnet. Tomov was also a member of the first-place 4x400m relay to earn his second victory of the afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tomov won the mile with a time of 4:23.87 in a competitive field of runners. Isaac Chu and Sam Brody also grabbed top-10 finishes with a pair of personal records. Chu placed seventh with a time of 4:27.96, while the senior followed at 4:28.16 in eighth place.

- Gutow claimed the top finish in the 400m run with a time of 52.14 to set a new indoor personal record. The junior narrowly beat out a Widener competitor by one-tenth of a second. 

- Fleming finished first overall in the 5000m run with a personal-best finish of 16:21.75. Howard Wang (17:37.58), Alex Skeldon (17:52.07) and Aidan Eagle (17:59.78) placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Skeldon also recorded a personal best in the event. 

- The 4x400 relay of Colin DeLaney, Tomov, Chu and Kenneth Relovsky placed first overall with a time of 3:38.82. 

- Swarthmore placed a pair of runners inside the top-five in the 800m run. DeLaney and Relovsky both finished with sub-two-minute marks as they raced to personal bests. DeLaney crossed the finish line ahead of Relovsky with a 1:59.47 mark, while the first-year followed closely at 1:59.65. Harrison Kim also placed inside the top-10 with a personal best of 2:06.78.

- Spencer Etheridge placed fourth overall in the 3000m run, but led all collegiate competitors with a time of 8:57.81 to record a personal best. Joey Alander also recorded a personal best with a time of 9:17.84 to finish sixth overall. 

- Aidan Corpus posted a personal record of 3.35m to earn fourth in the pole vault. Phair also took home a top-five finish with a 3.20m mark.
