Golf Sits Third Overall at Northeast Elite Opening Round

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's golf team sits in third overall out of 11 teams after the opening round of the Northeast Elite Tournament on Saturday. The Garnet carded a team score of 302 (+18) and sit six strokes off the leader Franklin & Marshall College.

Neil Zhu shot one-over-par for the opening round to place third overall on the individual leader board. All five of the Garnet competitors carded scores below 80 on a challenging Williamsport Country Club course. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Zhu currently sits in third overall with an opening round score of 72 (+1) to pace the Garnet. The sophomore shot even on the front nine, but struggled early on the back half of the course. Zhu turned things around on the final holes with a birdie on hole 16 and an eagle on the 18th hole.

- Dylan Zhang tied for 14th overall with a 76 (+5) in the opening round. The sophomore shot even on the front nine with a birdie on the sixth hole. 

- First-years Max Ash and Benjamin Garcia Moreira both shot six-over-par to tie for 16th overall. The duo both carded a pair of birdies on the afternoon. 

- Andy Xin tied for 24th overall with a 79 (+8) on the afternoon. The sophomore finished strong on the back nine with a birdie on the 18th hole to finish two-over-par.

UP NEXT
The Garnet wrap up play at the final round of the Northeast Elite Tournament, while the rest of the team will compete at tomorrow's Golden Oaks Shootout.
