Swarthmore to Host NCAA Men’s Basketball Sweet 16 & Elite Eight

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 7 Swarthmore College men's basketball team was selected to host the NCAA Men's Basketball Division-III Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds on Friday and Saturday. 

Swarthmore will play host to No. 5 Keene State, Nichols College, and Stockton University as each team battles for a spot in the Final Four. Nichols will face Stockton in the Sweet 16 round, while the Garnet will look for revenge against Keene State, who eliminated the Garnet in last season's opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The winners of both games will advance to Saturday's Elite Eight game in the Tarble Pavilion.

PARKING
The most convenient parking locations are Fieldhouse, West Fieldhouse Lane, Benjamin West, 101 S Chester Rd, and Whittier parking (GPS address: Whittier Place & Elm Ave Swarthmore, PA 19081). All of these lots are located on the campus map. There is also overflow parking at the Springfield Mall (GPS address: Springfield Mall, 1250 Baltimore Pike Springfield, PA 19064). A shuttle service will be available (2pm-11pm) that will loop from the Springfield Mall to Tarble Pavilion every 30 minutes. Parking and shuttle pick-up locations are on the north side of the mall's complex (See diagram below).

Parking in the Swarthmore Inn lot is prohibited. Violators may be ticketed or towed.

Online presale tickets for Friday's Sweet 16 round are SOLD OUT. There will be a limited number of tickets available for walk-up when the doors open at 3:15 pm on Friday. Video live streams will also be available for free on our athletics website for those who can't attend.

Per the NCAA, tickets will be available at the following rates (per session):
$15 - General Admission
$10 - Students, Senior Citizens, Children
FREE - Children under two years

 

Swarthmore enters this weekend's play with a 26-3 overall record. The Centennial Conference Champions rolled through the opening round with lopsided victories over SUNY Delhi, 93-64, and St. John Fisher University, 101-78. Swarthmore put together one of their best performances of the season versus the Cardinals as they rallied for a season-high 101 points in the contest. Freshman guard Cal Hanson had his best game of the season with 23 points, while Vinny DeAngelo added 22 to help send the Garnet to the Sweet 16. The Garnet are appearing in their sixth-straight NCAA Tournament, and will make their third appearance in the Sweet 16 round.

Keene State enters the pod with just one loss on the season as they hold a 28-1 overall record. After the Owls suffered their lone loss this season came against No. 11 Middlebury College on Jan. 16, the team has rallied for 13-straight victories. Keene State stormed through conference play with an undefeated record as they captured the Little East Championship. Keene State then beat Baruch, 89-78, in the opening round of the tournament before edging out Tufts, 77-72, to advance to the Sweet 16. 

Nichols carries a 19-game win streak and a 25-5 overall record into this weekend's action. The Bison earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after capturing the Commonwealth Coast Conference crown. Nichols then topped Rochester University, 74-71, in the opening round before upsetting Middlebury College, 73-66, in the second round. 

Stockton holds a 24-5 record after battling their way through a tough New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule. The Ospreys earned a selection to the NCAA Tournament after falling to No. 22 Rowan University in the NJAC Championship. Stockton defended their home court with victories over La Roche University, 86-70, and the University of Mary Washington, 68-65, in the opening rounds of the tournament.
