Golf Ends Fall Slate with Runner-Up Finish at F&M Invite

LITITZ, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's golf team wrapped up its fall slate on a positive note as they placed as the runner-up at the Franklin & Marshall Fall Invitational on Monday. The Garnet carded a team score of 301 to finish two strokes over the host Diplomats. 

Benjamin Garcia Moreira matched his season-best round with a 72 (+1) to cap off the final tournament of his first semester of collegiate competition. The first-year led the Garnet as he placed top-three individually and finished one stroke off the two leaders. 

As a team, all five Swarthmore competitors earned top-five finishes with Garcia-Moreira, Ben Lee and Neil Zhu all placing inside the top-10. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Garcia-Moreira tied for third overall with a 72 (+1). He was excellent on the front nine as he carded one-under-par with a birdie on the third hole. The first-year faced some adversity on the back half of the course, but ended the round strong with a birdie on the 18th hole to earn a top-three finish. 

- Lee and Zhu both tied for ninth overall as they carded a 76 (+5). Zhu bounced back from a challenging front-nine as he ended the day one-under-par on the back half. The sophomore birdied the 18th hole to end the round. Lee carded his best round of the season as he ended his senior campaign with a top-10 effort.

- Max Ash tied for 14th overall with a 77 (+6). The first-year battled adversity on the day, but responded with a team-high three birdies for the round. Ash put a bow on an excellent first semester as he carded an 80 or below in all nine rounds this fall.

- Andy Xin carded a 78 (+7) to finish tied for 18th overall. Xin recorded his lone birdie on the fifth hole as he shot one of his best rounds of the semester.
