COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's track & field team opened competition at day one of the Centennial Championships on Friday.
Bastiaan Phair leads the field in the decathlon after completing the first five events. The sophomore earned a top three finish in every event, including a trio of first place finishes in the shot put, 400m dash and high jump.Â

Phair sits in first overall with 3102 points after five events of the decathlon. Phair won the shot put with a top throw of 12.08m and took first overall in the high jump with a 1.76m mark. The sophomore also beat out his competitors in the 400m dash with a time of 51.56. He was third in the long jump with a top mark of 5.53m and the 100m dash with a 11.92 effort. Phair set new personal records in both the 400m and 100m dashes, respectively.Â

Harrison Kim placed ninth overall in the 10k run with a time of 32.22.57. The first-year battled through wet conditions to earn a top-10 finish.

The Garnet return to action tomorrow for the second day of the Centennial Championships.Â
