Five Men Earn Personal Records in 5000m Run at Widener Day One

CHESTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's track & field team competed at day one of the Widener Invitational on Friday night.

The Garnet had all five of their competitors record personal records in the 5000m run. Atticus Hempel led the pack with a top-five finish in the highly-competitive event.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hempel placed fifth out of 89 competitors in the 5000m run. The freshman posted a new personal best of 14:49.57 to improve his previous record by over 20-seconds.

- Sam Brody and Harrison Kim also posted strong finishes in the 5000m run. Brody posted a new personal record of 15:23.50, while Kim also took a significant chunk of his previous best with a 15:31.51 effort.

- Robert Mirabello recorded his first sub-16 mark of the outdoor season in the 5000m run to set a new personal record. The freshman improved on his outdoor personal best by over a full minute with a time of 15:55.05. Orlijan-Rhyme also achieved a personal best with a time of 16:10.88.

The Garnet return to Widener tomorrow for the second day of the invitational.
