Cantine Named PhillySIDA Co-Performer of the Year

PHILADELPHIA - Aidan Cantine earned another postseason award as the junior was named the 2021 PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Men's Cross Country Co-Performer of the Year on Wednesday by the Philadelphia Sports Information Directors Association (PhillySIDA).

Cantine, a computer science major, is a first-time member of the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Men's Cross Country Team, which was selected by the 30-Philadelphia-area sports information offices. This past fall, Cantine was recognized by the Centennial Conference as the Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The junior had an impressive 2021 season, with a fourth-place finish (25:50.9) at the 2021 Centennial Championships (Oct. 30) and a fifth-place run (25:27.9) at the NCAA DIII Metro Regional Championship (Nov. 13); Swarthmore benefited from his great performances, placing fourth at the Centennial Championships and third at regionals. Cantine went on to place 64th (24:36.5) at the NCAA Division III Championship. He is a two-time United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region selection (2019, 2021) and earned recognition on the 2019 and 2021 Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Cantine is joined by Thomas Jefferson University sophomore Owen Bradley (Mays Landing, N.J.) as the Co-Performer of the Year. The pair were joined on the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Men's Cross Country Team by Penn senior Noah Carey (Guilderland, N.Y.), Villanova sophomore Jack Jennings (Mendham, N.J.), Rowan junior Kevin Lauer (Mt. Laurel, N.J.), and Haverford juniors Max Brelig (Bonnieville, Ky.) and Ryan Kredell (Geneva, Ill.). In order to be nominated, student-athletes need to have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and have completed at least one full year of classes at their current institution.
