Aidan Cantine and
Atticus Hempel represented Swarthmore College Men's Cross Country at the 2021 NCAA Division III National Championships on Saturday at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
Cantine crossed the finish line in 64th place, while Hempel earned a finish of 236th place. Cantine completed the challenging 8K course in 24:36.5, which was just 13-seconds off of All-American honors. Hempel, a first-year, completed the event in 25:48.5. This was the first time in program history that the men's program was represented by more than one individual.
The pair are the first student-athletes to compete for the men's program at the NCAA Championships since Sid Kakkar in 2014. The 2021 event was comprised of 289 finishers and 32 eligible scoring teams. Pomona-Pitzer earned the National Championship with a score of 80, while MIT finished in second with 112 points.
