LANCASTER, Pa. - No. 24 Men's Swimming opened the season with a pair of wins in a tri-meet with No. 21 Franklin & Marshall College, Ursinus College, and McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon.
The Garnet defeated the Bears (204-57) and the Green Terror (219-28), but fell in a close battle to the nationally-ranked Diplomats (145-116).
Horace Shew led the way with victories in the 100-back and 200-breast. Shew finished the 100-back in 51.78 and the 200-breast in 2:08.14. In the 200-fly,
Jeremy Rockaway swam away with the race as he earned a victory with a time of 1:55.45.
Lonnie Chien finished the event in second place with a time of 1:57.15.
Andrew Karpenko narrowly won the 200-IM with a time of 1:58.33. Cameron Mehta of F&M closed in second place with a time of 1:58.43.
Ben Freeman finished the 1000-free with a time of 10:02.61 and 4:50.80 in the 500-free.
Cole Griscavage recorded a time of 47.34 for a third place finish in the 100-free.
In the 100-fly, the Garnet finished second through sixth. Rockaway led the way, followed by Chien,
Steve Gooden,
Ethan Marotte and
Mats McGrath.
The Garnet will return to the pool on Saturday as they travel to Chestertown, Md. to take on Washington College in another Centennial Conference dual meet. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 PM.
