COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Swarthmore College's four swimmers who qualified for nationals were honored as All-Americans on Wednesday morning by the Collegiate Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
After the NCAA Championship in March was canceled, the CSCAA recognized all swimmers who earned a trip to nationals with All-America honors. Swarthmore's 400- and 800-yard freestyle relay teams of Ethan Bergmann, Ben Freeman, Alec Lawless and Alec Menzer had been seeded 10th and 11th nationally in those respective events.
At this year's Centennial Conference Championship, the squad swam the 400 free relay in 3:00.82, taking a silver medal and setting a new school record. In the 800 free relay, the Garnet demolished the pool, school, championship and conference record with a gold-medal winning time of 6:39.82.
Swarthmore's 400 free relay team has now earned All-America honors for the second year in a row. Last year the Garnet finished 15th overall to claim an All-America Honorable Mention. Lawless repeats as an All-American after being a member of last year's All-America 400 free relay and 200 medley relay teams.
