Men's Basketball Ends Season Ranked No. 1

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—From start to finish, Swarthmore College Men's Basketball held onto the top-ranking in all of NCAA Division III out of 417 teams. The Garnet are the only program since the D3hoops.com rankings started in 1999-2000 to ever go the entire season from preseason poll to final poll ranked first in the nation.

The Garnet went 28-1 overall, setting a new program-record with a winning percentage of 96.6 before the season abruptly ended in an effort to counter the spread of the coronavirus. The Garnet had been poised to host the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament prior to the season stoppage.

Swarthmore won a remarkable 26 games in a row, becoming the only Centennial Conference school to ever do so, and were at the time the only undefeated team from NCAA Division I, II or III.

In the NCAA's national statistical rankings, the Garnet finished the year third in rebound margin (+11.2 rebounds per game), seventh in scoring margin (+14.8 points per game), and ninth in total blocks with 148.

During the season, three student-athletes joined the ranks of the 1,000-point scoring club: seniors Zac O'Dell (1,178) and Nate Shafer (1,014), and junior Conor Harkins (1,024).
