REDLANDS, Calif.–The 29th-ranked Swarthmore College men's tennis team fell by a 6-3 count to hosts No. 18 University of Redlands on Wednesday, March 8.
It was the Garnet's fifth match against a nationally-ranked opponent this season. The third doubles team of
John Larkin and
Blake Oetting grinded out a 9-8(4) win to prevent a doubles sweep by the Bulldogs.
In singles, Redlands clinched the match with four straight-sets wins. Larkin became a double winner with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at second singles and
Simon Vernier went the distance on a 6-3, 2-6, 1-0(6) triumph in the super tiebreaker.
Swarthmore will use a split squad tomorrow with matches against Cerritos College and No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
