WILMINGTON, N.C.—The 2017 outdoor track and field season began on Friday and Saturday for the Swarthmore College Garnet at the UNC-Wilmington Seahawk Invitational. Squaring off with teams from NAIA, NCAA Division I, II and III schools, Swarthmore posted some positive results.
The Garnet registered top-10 finishes in the triple jump and discus. In the triple jump, Daniel Belkin leapt 12.9 meters to finish in eighth. Andrew Jansen finished in eighth in the discus with a throw of 38.84 meters.
Jansen also posted the school's second-furthest hammer throw with a mark of 34.98m.
On the track, the Garnet finished in 11th in the 4x100m relay with Zain Hannan, Peter Sayde, Casey Bennett and Adil Belagaumi racing to a time of 44.67.
In the 200m dash, Belagaumi, a freshman, led the Garnet with a time of 23.65.
Swarthmore returns to action on March 31 at Widener University.
