SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Competing for the first time since training in Puerto Rico over winter break, Swarthmore College Men's Swimming looked sharp on Sunday, racing past Widener University 179-83.
The Garnet took first place in 10 individual events and the 200-yard medley relay. Liam Fitzstevens, Alejandro Hernandez, Andrew Steele and Jeffrey Tse combined for a time of 1:37.47 to win the opening relay. Fitzstevens grabbed individual wins in the 200 backstroke (1:57.20) and the 400 individual medley (4:16.69). Tse won the 100 backstroke (52.66) and the 100 IM (52.82), setting a new school record in the IM. Michael Lutzker also was a double winner, finishing first in the 200 butterfly (2:01.86) and the 500 freestyle (4:53.61).
Chris Smith set a new personal best in the 200 breast, winning with a time of 2:15.39.
Steele took first in the 100 fly, clocking in at 52.34. Henry Wilson added nine points for the Garnet with a win in the 100 breast (1:02), and Jeffrey Mun also tallied the top score in the 200 freestyle (1:46.51).
The Garnet will be back in action at Cabrini University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
