SWARTHMORE, Pa.—The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (2-3) notched a 5-4 win over Wilkes University on Thursday, March 24.
Sophomore Anna Scheibmeir paired with freshman Julia Gokhberg to score the first team point, defeating Taylor Hoffmann and Julia Baranov at No. 2 doubles, 8-2. At No. 3, sophomores Ashley Gao and Rachel Bronkema beat Olivia Hewison and Alanna Denauski by a score of 8-3, giving the Garnet a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Scheibmeir and Bronkema both became double winners with identical 6-3, 6-1 wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles over Erin Volutzn and Grace Graham, respectively. At No. 3, freshman Arya Jemal contributed to Swarthmore's victory, recording a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Hoffmann.
The Garnet continue conference competition and will take on McDaniel College at home on Saturday, March 26. The match is slated to begin at 1:00 pm at the College Avenue courts.
