SWARTHMORE, Pa.–The Swarthmore College men's track and field team had a busy Saturday as members of the team competed at the prestigious Villanova Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y. and the Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus College.
At Villanova,
John Gagnon and
Corey Branch set indoor personal-bests in their respective events. Gagnon's time of 8:49.14 in the 3k is the seventh-fastest time in program history and Branch ran the 800-meter race in 1:58.90. Senior
Paul Green also competed in the one-mile run (4:21.37).
At the Colden Invitational, the team also posted some strong finishes. In the 400-meter dash,
Ethan Lee (52.54),
Saadiq Garba (53.03), and
Zain Hannan (53.14) finished close together at ninth, 10th and 12th, respectively. The trio also joined freshman
Benjamin Warren for a fifth-place result in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:34.09.
Dominic Castro-Wehr was 10th in the one-mile run (4:36.84) while
Jordan Reyes (2:04.97) and
Stuart Arbuckle (2:05.18) placed 12th and 13th, respectively, in the 800-meter run. In the 3k,
Mayank Agrawal (15th, 9:22.74) and
Will Sullivan (16th, 9:25.88) also finished back-to-back.
In the field events,
Andrew Jansen landed in 13th place with his distance of 12.74 meters in the shot put and
Daniel Belkin tied for sixth after clearing 1.80 meters in high jump.
The team is scheduled to resume competition next weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.
