SWARTHMORE, Pa.–The Swarthmore College men's swimming team got off to a strong start for the 2016-17 season with an big, 145-59 win over the visiting McDaniel College Green Terror on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Ware Pool.
Swarthmore won eight of the 11 events contested and took the top two places in seven of those races.
Michael Lutzker, Jeffrey Tse and Andrew Steele each factored into two wins for the Garnet. Lutzker opened the afternoon with a victory in the 1000 free (10:00.51) and later placed first in the 500 free (4.50.91).
Steele pulled off a similar sweep in the sprint events with wins in the 50 and 100 free with times of 21.70 and 48.38, respectively.
Jeffrey Tse touched the wall first in the 200 free (1:46.08) and teamed with Stephen Sekula, Nigel Van Ha and Charles Yang for a runaway victory in the 200 free relay (1:28.66), finishing over seven seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Freshman Gabe Caldwell claimed the 200 individual medley (2:01.13) in his collegiate debut and senior Liam Fitzstevens led the field in the 100 back.
The men's swim team will compete against Franklin & Marshall at a meet hosted on the campus of Bryn Mawr College on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m.
