HAVERFORD, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Cross Country came in fifth place on Saturday in the 2016 Centennial Conference Championship on the campus of Haverford College. The Garnet collected 151 points in the 8K race and averaged 27:00.4 as a team.
Host Haverford College captured the title with 34 points and an average time of 25:23.5. Muhlenberg's Jaryd Flank won the individual title with a time of 24:53.9.
Swarthmore's John Gagnon finished in 14th place to earn All-Conference honors. His time of 25:54.0 paced the Garnet harriers. At last season's title meet, Gagnon posted a time of 27:26.8. Gagnon was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the Centennial Conference, holding the highest cumulative GPA among All-Conference runners.
Three freshmen scored in Swarthmore's top-five with Vaughn Parts leading the way among rookies. Parts finished in 28th overall with a time of 26:54.2. Frank Kenny added a time of 27:10.6 for 32nd place and Lucas Heinzerling finished in 40th place overall with a 27:42.6 mark.
Corey Branch, a senior, recorded a time of 27:20.5 to finish 37th overall.
Evan Baker and Oliver Newman were Swarthmore's sixth and seventh runners, recording times of 27:43.8 and 28:15.7, respectively.
The Garnet compete in NCAA Regionals on Nov. 12 at DeSales University.
