FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Over the weekend, the Swarthmore College women's tennis team competed at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships hosted by the University of Mary Washington. Ten players represented the Garnet, which concluded the fall portion of their season at the event.
Freshman
Amanda Izes reached the semifinals of the Blue 3 singles flight with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Jeannella Williams of Shenandoah and a 7-6(1), 6-3 victory against Goucher's Alice Goldstein-Plesser.
She teamed with classmate
Shivani Gupta to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Blue 3 doubles draw with an 8-4 triumph over Emily Chazen and Caroline Steliotes of Haverford. Gupta also reached the quarters of the Blue 4 singles bracket after defeating Amy Rapp of Shenandoah by a 6-2, 6-2 score.

Julia Gokhberg and sophomore
Anna Scheibmeir made the round of 32. Gokhberg beat Steliotes 6-2, 6-3 and Scheibmeier earned a 6-4, 6-2 win against Shenandoah's Molly Barb.
Sophomore
Ashley Gao and
Rachel Hechinger qualified for the quarterfinals in the Blue 1 doubles flight with an 8-3 victory over Haverford's Courtney Ahmed and Renata DiDonato. The team of senior
Abby Schmidt and sophomore
Sophia Schuster also made the quarters in the Blue 2 doubles draw by beating the Juniata team of Vienna Cordier and Sam Hendricks.
Swarthmore resumes competition on Feb. 27, 2016 when it hosts NYU at 9:00 a.m.
