Jason Heo won the 400-meter intermediate hurdles to lead the Swarthmore College men's track & field team to a seventh-place finish among nine schools at the Centennial Conference Championships on Sunday, May 3 at Muhlenberg's Scotty Wood Stadium. The Garnet finished with 59 points.
Johns Hopkins won its second straight title by racking up 175 points. Haverford finished a distant second with 121 points and Franklin & Marshall was third with 100 points. Ursinus (94), Gettysburg (88), Dickinson (82), Swarthmore (59), Muhlenberg (51.50) and McDaniel (46.50) rounded out the field.
Heo was victorious in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles by navigating the track in 55.55 seconds and edging out Franklin & Marshall's Michael Hoffman by less than a second. He also scored additional points for the Garnet by placing third in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.09 seconds and anchoring the third-place 4x400-meter relay that hit the tape in 3:23.36 and also consisted of freshman
Shua McLean, junior
Ethan Lee and senior
Erick White.
Other notable performances on the track were made by seniors
Jonas Oppenheimer and White. Oppenheimer was second in the 1,500-meter run by crossing the line in 3:57.31, while White was third in the 800 in 1:54.14
In the field, seniors
Colton Aho and
Zach Kronstat scored for the Garnet and helped the program improve on last year's eighth-place finish. After recording a personal-best toss in the discus throw yesterday, Aho achieved the feat again this afternoon in the shot put with a fourth-place mark of 44-feet, 1.25-inches. Kronstat was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 41-11.25.
Swarthmore will host a final qualifier meet on Monday, May 11 at 3:30 p.m.
