COMPLETE RESULTSSWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's track & field team eclipsed two school records at a final qualifier meet on Monday, May 11 at Clothier Field.
Anchored by
Tim Vaughan-Ogunlusi, the 4x100-meter relay navigated the track in 43.46 seconds to finish fifth overall. Senior
Jason Heo and sophomores
Peter Sayde and
Zain Hannan completed the relay that broke the previous standard of 43.5 seconds which was established in 1969. The group's mark also ranks 55th nationally.
Other notable performances were made by senior middle distance standouts
Erick White and
Jonas Oppenheimer. White eclipsed his own school record in the 800-meter run by finishing 29th in 1:53.83, edging out his previous standard of 1:53.98 that he notched at the same meet last spring. Oppenheimer ran a collegiate-best time of 3:54.89 in the 1,500-meters and placed 32nd.
Swarthmore plans to send student-athletes to another final qualifying meet at Salisbury on Friday, May 15.
Notes: The old relay record is a 440-yard relay which converts to 43.44 seconds for a 400-meter relay that is currently being contested in the present day.
