BOX SCOREHILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team opened its spring break with an 8-1 victory over Westminster College (Pa.) on
Sunday, March 8. Four Swarthmore players were double winners on the day.
Sophomore
Alli Wong and freshman
Maria Cuervo opened the match with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles over Mariah Turiano and Gabby Eaborn. The No. 2 team of junior
Jackie Lane and freshman
Anna Scheibmeir followed, defeating Sydney Sterner and Lauren Fling by a score of 8-4.Freshmen
Ashley Gao and
Rachel Bronkema completed the doubles sweep and overcame Maria Pallone and Stephanie Homitz at No. 3, 8-6.
In singles play, Wong, Scheibmeir, Cuervo, and Gao all went on to claim their second wins. Wong defeated Sterner at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3, while Scheibmeir outplayed Turiano at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2.
Cuervo secured her match at No. 3, 6-3, 6-1, and Gao won easily at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman
Sophia Schuster rounded out the lineup with a 6-3, 7-6(3) victory at No. 6.
The women look to continue their streak when they take on Randolph College
tomorrow at 12:30pm.
