RESULTSCHESTER, Pa. – Senior
Emanuel Schorsch set a school record by placing second in the heptathlon to pace the Swarthmore College men's track & field team at the Widener Field Meet on Friday, Jan. 30 at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
Schorsch accumulated 3,189 points to place second behind Widener's Sean Weiss. He most notably recorded top marks of 5-feet, 4.50-inches in the high jump and 3:06.33 in the 1,000-meter run and also set personal bests in the long jump (17-0), high jump and shot put (33-2).
Jerry Qin finished third with the second-best mark in program history, accumulating 2,959 points. Both marks surpassed the record of 2,897 points set by Eric Verhasselt in 2013.
Other notable performances were made by senior
Colton Aho and sophomores
Chris Chan and
Jon Saltzman. Aho placed sixth among 15 competitors in the shot put with a toss that sailed 39-3, while Chan was fourth in the long jump by leaping 18-10.50. Both student-athletes qualified for the Centennial Conference Championships with their respective marks. Saltzman cleared 8-10.25 in the pole vault, a personal best, to finish second.
Swarthmore next travels to Haverford to compete at the McElligott Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 11:00 a.m.
