Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – The Swarthmore College women's basketball team dropped a Centennial Conference game to Johns Hopkins by a 56-40 score on Saturday, Jan. 10 at Goldfarb Gym.
Swarthmore scored on its first possession and led 7-5 by getting a layup from
Jessica Jowdy at the 16:05 mark, but the Blue Jays responded by netting 14 unanswered with a balanced attack to take control. Despite struggling offensively, the hosts did not allow the Garnet to convert a field goal for a span of 14:11 until
Abbey Deckard canned a 3-pointer from the left arc to make it 27-16 with under two minutes remaining. A pair of free throws followed by a good jumper from Katie Clark gave the Blue Jays a 33-18 cushion heading into the break.
The hosts started the second half on a 15-3 run. Haley Bush drained the first six points for Johns Hopkins (8-5, CC 5-2), and Ciara McCullagh followed with two consecutive layups to extend the lead to 43-20. Freshman
Hayley Raymond hit two straight field goals to attempt to get the offense going, but the cold shooting continued and the Garnet would not get any closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
Johns Hopkins' balanced scoring attack was led by Liz Tommasi, who netted 11 points and was the only player for either team to make multiple field goals and shoot over 50 percent from the field. She also had a game-high seven steals. McCullagh contributed eight points, five rebounds and three blocks, while Bush finished with seven points and 10 boards. The Blue Jays had six players score at least six points and had a commanding 25-9 advantage in bench scoring.
