Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women's soccer team was dealt its first Centennial Conference loss in a 1-0 setback against 25th-ranked Dickinson on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Miller Field.
After a scoreless first half that was evenly played, Dickinson (8-1, CC 2-0) netted the lone goal early in the second frame. Junior Bridgette Corbran finished a pass from classmate Hannah Matlack for her first marker of the season.
Swarthmore (6-2, CC 2-1) had plenty of opportunities to net an equalizer before the end of regulation. Senior
Emma Sindelar, who is on the verge of becoming the program's all-time leading goal scorer, unleashed two shots that were saved by junior goalkeeper Charlottte Armour in the 65th and 67th minutes, while sophomores
Mele Johnson,
Caroline Khanna and
Hannah Lichtenstein all had attempts go wide within a span of 2:58.
The Garnet had one last chance in the waning minutes when Lichtenstein challenged Armour one more time. The sophomore's shot, however, was blocked by the junior to allow the Red Devils to escape with the win.
Junior goalkeeper
Reba Magier turned away five shots for Swarthmore in the losing effort. She went a span of 249:31 without yielding a goal before Corbran netted the eventual game-winning tally. Armour earned the shutout win for Dickinson by making five saves.
