Jason Heo placed in both hurdles events to lead the Swarthmore College men's track & field team to an eighth-place finish at the Centennial Conference Championships on Sunday, May 4. The Garnet, who were hosting the meet for the first time since 2010, finished with 31 points.
Johns Hopkins won its first-ever title by finishing with 209.50 points. Haverford, which had won the previous two crowns, finished second with 167 points and Dickinson was third with 133. Ursinus (91), Muhlenberg (66.50), Franklin & Marshall (60), Gettysburg (33), Swarthmore (31) and McDaniel (23) rounded out the field.
Heo began the afternoon by finishing seventh in the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.63 seconds before navigating the track in 57.39 to place second in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. The junior also factored into scoring by running on the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams that placed seventh overall with marks of 44.61 and 3:31.19, respectively.
The Garnet also had four additional athletes score in individual track events over the final day of competition. Freshman
Zain Hannan was seventh in the 400-meter dash in 51.23, while classmate
Sid Kakkar posted an eighth-place time of 14:53.18 in the 5,000-meter run. Sophomore
Paul Green and junior
Jonas Oppenheimer were sixth and seventh in the 1,500-meters with marks of 3:55.14 and 3:56.06.
In the field events,
Colton Aho led the way for the host school by finishing eighth in the shot put. He registered a toss that sailed 40-feet, 11.50-inches.
Swarthmore will host a final qualifier meet on Monday, May 12 at 4 p.m.
