Box Score
SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior Kayla Moritzky matched a career high for scoring and classmate Katie Lytle notched another double-double in leading the Swarthmore College women's basketball team to an 80-67 victory over Washington College on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Tarble Pavilion.

Swarthmore burst out to a 7-0 lead after getting a Moritzky 3-pointer followed by field goals from freshman Maggie O'Neil and junior Elle Larsen. The Shorewomen, however answered right back and were able to knot up the score at 14s on two free throws by sophomore Carley Kendall to begin a stretch that featured four ties and four lead changes through the remainder of the half.

Following the seesaw battle that lasted nearly eight minutes, a Lytle trifecta gave the Garnet a 26-25 advantage and the lead for good. Capped by an O'Neil 3-pointer, Swarthmore ended the frame on a 17-4 run and carried a 40-29 cushion into the break.

Washington College (7-16, CC 6-11) attempted to chip away at the deficit and closed within seven on two occasions, which included getting a layup from senior Latisha Pledger to make it 59-52 with 6:55 left. But that was as close as the Shorewomen would come, as Moritzky factored into eight Garnet straight points by setting up consecutive field goals and making three straight shots from the line after being fouled on a shot attempt from beyond the arc. Swarthmore went a perfect 13-for-13 from the charity stripe to close out regulation and put the game out of reach.

Moritzky, who was playing in her 100th career game, netted 21 points to match a career high for scoring and dished out seven assists to lead Swarthmore. She ended the night with 343 helpers in her career and three shy of breaking the all-time mark of 345 set by Maggie Doughterty in 1987. Lytle contributed 20 points and 17 to go along with five steals, while O"Neil scored 16 and blocked four shots in her first career start.

Washington College was paced by junior Emily Hubley and senior Kelly Mitchell. The upperclassmen finished with 16 and 13 points, respectively, in the losing effort. Claire Mattox had four points and five assists.

Swarthmore (13-10, CC 8-9) will conclude its 2013-14 regular season when it hosts archrival Haverford on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. Four seniors will be recognized prior to the contest for their contributions to the program.
