Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – A huge second-half run and a 19-point performance by Jessica Porter led Gettysburg to a 65-46 win over the Swarthmore College women's basketball team on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Bream Gym.
Swarthmore scored the first four points, courtesy of field goals by senior
Elle Larsen and freshman
Hayley Raymond, and held on to the lead through the opening 10 minutes of action. But after Larsen converted one of two free throws to make it 14-12 at the 10:04 mark, the Bullets started to rally and went ahead for the first time when Jenna Swope completed an old-fashioned 3-point play to give the hosts a 15-14 edge. Swope then made a jumper to help Gettysburg end the half on a 16-2 run while preventing the Garnet from sinking a field goal for more than 10 minutes of action.
After junior
Abbey Deckard canned one of her three 3-pointers in the contest, the Bullets quickly recovered and appeared to start pulling away thanks to a Porter jumper followed by a trey off the hands of Jamie Relin. But Swarthmore fought back and slashed a 14-point deficit down to just two points by netting 12 unanswered over a 2:16 span.
Jessica Jowdy keyed the comeback bid for the visitors by racking up seven points during the stretch that made it a 33-31 ballgame with 15:01 left.
Gettysburg, however, would never surrender the advantage it earned in the first half and exploded to score 24 of the game's next 29 points to establish control. A good jumper by Emily Gibbons created a 57-36 score and provided more than enough insurance for the Bullets to record their second conference victory of the young season.
Jowdy paced Swarthmore with a season-high 15 points to go along with a team-leading four assists. Deckard just missed a double-double with nine points and eight boards, while Larsen finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three blocked shots.
Gettysburg (4-0, CC 2-0) was led by Porter and Swope. Porter registered a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Swope added 15 points and four helpers. Gibbons contributed eight points off the bench.
