SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Leading wire to wire, the Swarthmore College women's basketball team secured its first win of the season over Hartwick College by a 73-47 score on Sunday, Nov. 16 at Tarble Pavilion. The teams met in the Tip-Off Tournament consolation match.

The Garnet opened the game with back-to-back 3-pointers from freshman Melanie Ackerman and junior Abbey Deckard. After Deckard hit another shot from downtown, Larsen converted her first layup to build an 11-1 lead to force Hartwick to burn a timeout. Out of the break, Ackerman sunk two more threes for Swarthmore to give the hosts a 17-3 cushion. The Hawks attempted to rally with under six minutes in the half and began digging themselves out of a 20-point deficit by ending the half on a 15-10 run.

Swarthmore, which led 38-24 at the break, got consecutive layups from Larsen to go ahead by 21 and ballooned its lead up to 28 points before it was all over. Junior Jessica Jowdy hit a free throw to make it 61-33 at 9:34 and freshman Hayley Raymond converted a layup for two of her seven points in the frame to create a 66-38 score with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. Freshman Kemi Oladipo converted a layup at the buzzer to ice the outcome.

Senior Elle Larsen led Swarthmore (1-1) with 25 points – including going 7-for-9 at the charity stripe – and nine boards. She was also named to the all-tournament team after averaging 21 points and 11 boards during the tournament. Junior Abbey Deckard contributed 12 points to the Garnet offense, while Ackerman and Raymond each registered nine points. Freshman Raina Williams handled nine boards, including three offensive, while hitting three of four shots at the line.

Emily Stone and Anna Hickey paced Hartwick (0-2) with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Jacqui Foreman collected five boards for the defense and Courtney Cirillo finished with two steals.

The Garnet return to Tarble Pavilion on Wednesday, Nov. 19 to open Centennial Conference play with Muhlenberg College at 7:00  p.m.
