HAVERFORD, Pa. - Junior
Jonas Oppenheimer of the Swarthmore College men's track and field team set a new indoor mile program record to highlight the Haverford Invitational on Saturday, January 25.
Oppenheimer placed third overall and first among Centennial Conference opponents in the field with his 4:17.77 mile pace. He sets a new indoor program record that was previously set by Vernon Chaplin '07 with a 4:19.15 mark.
Freshman
Zain Hannan sprinted to a 7.40 time in the 60-meter dash - a mark that falls on the program's top-10 performance list. Hannan also placed third in the 400-meter dash clocking in at 51.79.
Recording a top-15 finish in the mile run were freshman
Corey Branch (4:33.17), sophomore
Spencer Friske (4:33.84), sophomore
Paul Green (4:34.11) and junior
Erick White (4:34.24) whom finished in ninth through 12th place followed by sophomore
Dan Creem in 14th with his 4:34.60 time.
Senior
Stuart Russell recorded a personal-best 3,000-meter run finish of 8:53.86 for 20th place amongst a field of 45 competitors.
For the field events, junior
Emanuel Schorsch leap 1.62 meters (5' 3.75") in the high jump event and 2.45 meters (8' 0.5") in the pole vault. Junior
Zach Kronstat compiled a triple jump mark of 12.60 meters (41' 4.25") for second place.
The Garnet returns to action on Friday, February 7 in two different meets; Haverford's McElligott Invitational and Boston University's Valentine Invitational.
