Robert Fain hit the tape third individually among 48 competitors to propel the Swarthmore College men's cross country team to a first-place finish among three scoring teams at the Bryn Mawr Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Rose Tree Park. The Garnet earned 25 points to easily outdistance Rutgers-Camden and Valley Forge Military for the team title.
Swarthmore used pack running to triumph in its first meet of the season and had 10 runners that placed third through 12th by crossing the line within a few seconds of each other. Fain posted a 5,000-meter course time of 17:58 to finish only behind two harriers from Rutgers-Camden.

Stuart Russell,
Erick White and
Dan Creem ran an identical time of 17:58 and rounded out the team's top five. The Garnet also had four additional runners –
Dominic Castro-Wehr,
Paul Green,
Sid Kakkar and
John Gagnon - complete the course in 17:59.
Swarthmore returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 26 when it competes at the Main Line Invitational.
