Box Score

HAVERFORD, Pa. – With its playoff seed hanging in the balance, the Swarthmore College women's basketball team left Haverford College Saturday afternoon with a 45-41 loss to end the regular season.

Because of its loss to Haverford and Gettysburg's close victory over McDaniel, the Garnet will be the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs. No. 2 Swarthmore (19-6, 15-5) will face No. 3 Muhlenberg in the first semi-final on Friday, February 22 at 8:00 p.m from Gettysburg's Bream Gym.

Katie Lytle led all scorers with 18 points and 15 rebounds - she carried the Garnet in the first half with 12 points and 10 rebounds to collect her 18th double-double this season. Elle Larsen finished with eight points and eight rebounds along with three blocks and two steals. Junior Kayla Moritzky tallied five assists in the effort.

Dominique Meeks led the Fords (15-9, 12-8) offense with 10 points, while Calla Miller and Elizabeth Lynch each tallied nine points. Meeks and Rachel Basin grabbed nine rebounds apiece. The Fords bench combined from 22 points to Swarthmore's three points.

In a game that had multiple ties and lead changes, the largest advantage held was six points which came early in the first half from Swarthmore and midway into the first frame for Haverford.

Down 44-41 with 31 seconds to play, Swarthmore had a chance to tie the game once again, but a overthrown pass to the wing resulted in a costly turnover for the Garnet. The Fords were able to hold onto the ball, grab another two points and hold onto the victory.

The game opened on a Garnet 6-0 run before the Fords responded with a 7-0 run of its own to take its first of many leads of the contest. The first tie of the game came at 14:32 with a layup from Haverford's Shannon Smith. A three-pointer from Voith at 11:59 put Haverford in front 19-16 – the Garnet held at 16 points until 7:55 to start a six-point run by Lytle to tie the game at 22 with 4:33 remaining.

Meeks converted on a last second layup to give the Fords an 24-22 edge into intermission.

Swarthmore, playing in the Centennial Conference playoffs for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign, will look to set more accomplishments next weekend in Gettysburg.
