HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's track and field team opened it's indoor season at Villanova's Jack Pyrah Invitational hosted at Haverford College on Saturday, December 7. The meet featured five other area schools, Franklin & Marshall, Widener, Haverford, LaSalle, Temple and host Villanova.Â
Freshmen Zain Hannan made his collegiate debut competing in the 300-meter run and 60-meter dash. Placing sixth overall and ahead of all other Centennial Conference competitors, Hannan finished the 300m in 36.79. Hannan joined teammates, juniors Jason Heo and Emanuel Schorsch in the 60m - finishing 7.45, 7.64 and 8.26, respectively.
Junior Jonas Oppenheimer clocked a 4:25.55 mile pace to finish sixth among Villanova and LaSalle competitors. The Garnet placed six harriers in the 3,000-meter run with sophomore Paul Green leading the pack at 9:12.78 for seventh place overall. Freshmen Corey Branch, John Gagnon and Will Sullivan finished 10-11-12 with marks of 9:29.09, 9:35.90 and 9:39.40, respectively.Â
In the opening long jump of the season, senior Gavin Fahey cleared 5.51 meters (18' 1") in the event.Â
Swarthmore will enter final exams and the winter break session. Up next for the Garnet is the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday, January 14. Â
