Women’s Basketball Cruises to 85-26 Non-Conference Victory Over Bryn Mawr

Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Sophomore Isabella Bellezza set two career highs with 12 points and five steals as the Swarthmore College women's basketball team cruised to an 85-26 non-conference victory over Bryn Mawr on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Class of 58 Gymnasium.

Junior Chastity Hopkins kickstarted a 15-0 run for Swarthmore, which never trailed in the contest, when she hit a jump shot to break a 4-all tie to put the visitors in full control early. Freshman Maggie O'Neil capped the stretch by drilling a 3-pointer and finding Bellezza for a layup to make it 19-4 with 11:05 on the clock. The Garnet lead would then balloon all the way up to 26 points courtesy of an Erin Jenson layup to create a 38-12 score before senior Nicolette Parmese converted a pair of free throws to cut the deficit down to 24 at the recess.

Swarthmore's wave of momentum continued into the second half. After sophomore Veronica Roux drove in for a layup to make it 40-16 at the 18:19 mark, the Garnet exploded offensively by going on a 27-1 run over the next 10 minutes. Junior Saira Kitiagawa ended the drought which lasted 10:17 by making a layup with just over eight minutes left. The Garnet led by as many as 63 points when an Elle Larsen free throw gave the visitors an 85-22 cushion and a lopsided win.

In addition to setting career marks for scoring and steals, Bellezza also accumulated three rebounds and two assists to help pace Swarthmore. Senior Katie Lytle finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and six steals, while O'Neil contributed a career-best 10 points off the bench.

Parmese led Bryn Mawr (1-4) with a double-double performance in the losing effort. She scored 15 points and pulled down 10 boards.

Swarthmore (3-3) resumes Centennial Conference play when it hosts Johns Hopkins on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
