Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Despite getting a double-double from senior
Katie Lytle, the Swarthmore women's basketball team fell by a 65-56 score to Gettysburg on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Tarble Pavilion in a rematch of last year's Centennial Conference championship game.
Swarthmore (2-2, CC 0-2) came out firing on all cylinders and jumped out to a five-point lead at 12-7 when
Abbey Deckard hit a 3-pointer in the opening minutes of play. After six ties and seven lead changes, the Garnet, however, found themselves trailing by three at the break.
Lytle opened the scoring in the second half to close the deficit to a single point at 33-32, but Gettysburg (3-1, CC 1-1) would not surrender the lead for the remainder of the game. After the Lytle basket, the Bullets embarked on a 16-2 run to take a commanding 49-34 advantage and never looked back to pick up a key road victory.
Lytle finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds for Swarthmore in the losing effort. She also had five steals and four assists. Deckard scored a team-high 15 points, while junior
Elle Larsen and senior
Stephanie Lechich also recorded double-digit scoring efforts with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Bullets were paced by senior Caroline Murphy, who recorded 25 points, six rebounds and three assists in the victory. Junior Rianna Doane highlighted a stout Bullet defense with four steals and a block.
The Garnet will look to respond when they host Ursinus on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Play is slated for 7:00 p.m.
