WESTMINSTER, Md. – Freshman
Andrew Steele took first place in the 50-yard freestyle, and anchored the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay team in leading the Swarthmore men's swimming team to a 61-34 dual meet victory over McDaniel on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Harlow Pool.
Steele beat out Garnet junior
Max Krackow in the 50-yard freestyle by .07 seconds to post a time of 22.81. Later on in the meet, Steele and Krackow teamed up with
Stephen Sekula and
Samuel Tomlinson to record a time of 1:31.54 in the 200-yard freestyle relay, which was a full 18 seconds faster than McDaniel's foursome.
The Garnet received other strong performances from individual winners freshman
Liam Fitzstevens and junior
Samuel Tomlinson, who took first and second place, respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke. Senior
John Flaherty won the 100-yard butterfly by posting a time of 55.71, and freshman
Lincoln Harris won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:10.16.
Swarthmore (2-0, CC 1-0) will return to return to action against conference opponent Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, Nov. 9. The away meet is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Lancaster, Pa.
