SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Three players reached double-digits to lead visiting Johns Hopkins to a 63-44 win over the Swarthmore College men's basketball team (3-11, 2-5) on Tuesday evening from Tarble Pavilion.

Big man George Bugarinovic led the way for the Blue Jays (7-7, 4-3) with 16 points - 14 of which came in the first half. Connor McIntyre (14 points) and Jimmy Hammer (12 points) also reached double-figures for Hopkins.

Junior Jay Kober led the Garnet with 12 points, including an eight-of-nine performance from the free-throw line. Senior Will Gates finished with 11 points while sophomore Karl Barkley added nine points.

The physical Blue Jays got it done with their size and their defense. Hopkins held Swarthmore to just 29 percent shooting for the game and limited the Garnet to just seven points over the game's final 10 minutes to inflate the scoreline of an otherwise close game. The Jays also used their size to out-score Swat 30-18 in the paint.

The Blue Jays surged to an early eight-point lead in the opening minutes of play, but Swarthmore battled back. Following five consecutive points from Gates, the Garnet found itself down just 24-22 with four minutes to play in the half. The momentum swung back in Hopkins favor to close out the half, as Bugarinovic and Hammer combined to score eight points in final the four minutes to give the Blue Jays a 32-24 lead at the break.

The game remained tight to start the second half. A lay-up from Gates off an excellent feed from Federer cut the lead to six points (36-30) at the 16:09 mark. Four minutes later, back-to-back driving lay-ups from freshman Ethan Lee and Seth Liebert kept the Garnet within striking distance at 43-37.

Following Liebert's score, Hopkins responded with a run that  changed the course of the game. Buoyed by second chances provided by strong offensive rebounding, the Blue Jays went on a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to go ahead 52-37.

The Garnet would not get within single digits for the remainder of the game. Hopkins' defense held Swarthmore to just seven points over the game's final 12 minutes to earn the 63-44 win.

Both teams were nearly perfect from the free-throw line, with the Jays hitting 15-of-16 attempts and the Garnet 12-of-13.

Junior Joe Keedy led the Garnet with seven rebounds.

Swarthmore looks to get back on track Saturday when it hosts Dickinson. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
