WESTMINSTER, Md. – Senior Will Gates - eclipsing the 1,500-point milestone in the first half – led the Swarthmore College (4-12, 3-6) men's basketball team to a 75-71 overtime victory over McDaniel College to snap a six-game losing streak.

Gates reached the 1,500-point plateau late in the first half - totaling 20 points against McDaniel (10-6, 4-5) - to become just the fifth player in program history and the 21st player in Centennial Conference records to reach the milestone.

With less than thirty seconds in regulation, McDaniel's defense forced the Garnet to a 10-second violation and regained possession down by two points, 63-61. The Green Terror managed a layup from Nic Martin with 14 ticks remaining to set the overtime frame.

Behind 68-67 with 1:40 left in the first overtime, Keedy converted on a layup and foul to give the Garnet the lead for good. The Green Terror came with one with 16 seconds left, but Swarthmore converted on 3-of-4 free throws to clinch the victory and cut McDaniel's three-game winning streak.

Also in double-figures for the Garnet were junior Jay Kober with 20 points and Joe Keedy with 14 points. Jordan Federer showcased a good stat line with 10 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Four players from McDaniel also found double-digits in the effort. Evan Pupelis lead with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Andrew Merlo finished with 12 points, while Travis Rudd collected 11 and Nic Martin clipped 10 points. Rudd and Martin each grabbed six rebounds.

The first half started off slow for both teams, however like the entire game, the score never reached double-digits and rarely passed a five point margin. The Green Terror caught fire with a 6-0 run with under six minutes to play, but Swarthmore closed out the final three minutes with 11 points to take a six-point lead into halftime.

Followed by seven straight points from Gates, Jay Kober sunk a long ball at the buzzer to put the Garnet ahead 34-28 at the break.

In the final ten minutes of the second half, the scoring margin did not stretch beyond four points to either squad's benefit. The Green Terror looked to take control with a 7-0 run over two minutes to pull ahead 54-50 with 8:12 remaining. The score tied two more times and there were two lead changes over the rest of regulation.
