Hot Start Propels Women's Basketball to 73-31 Victory Over Bryn Mawr

Box Score

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Thanks to contributions from all nine players in the line-up, the Swarthmore College women's basketball team (12-2, 8-1) earned a convincing 73-31 win over Tri-Co rival Bryn Mawr on Tuesday evening in Centennial Conference action.

Senior Madeline Ross finished with 15 points and senior Eliza Polli netted 14 points to lead the Garnet, which won its third consecutive Centennial Conference game. Junior Katie Lytle recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while freshman Abbey Deckard finished with a career-high 10 points and nine rebounds.

Nicolette Parmese led the Owls (1-13, 0-10) with a game-high 16 points and 10 rebounds.

A 6-4 contest in the opening minutes, Swarthmore took the game by the horns with a commanding 25-0 run over a seven-minute span. Lytle, Ross, Polli and freshman Jessica Jowdy each scored five points apiece during the run, while a three-pointer from Deckard capped the scoring spree at the 8:53 mark. When it was all said and done, the Garnet had built a 31-4 advantage and essentially determined the outcome.

From that point on, the Owls fought hard but were simply no match for the first-place Garnet. Bryn Mawr scored 15 points over the first-half's final eight minutes, but Swarthmore still went into the break with a 20-point cushion (39-19). In the second half, Swarthmore continued to get scoring from across the board, rounding out the 73-31 win.

Jowdy and sophomore Elle Larsen each finished with seven points. Jowdy finished with a game-high five steals while Larsen swatted two shots.

Swarthmore's defense was swarming from the opening tip, forcing 25 Owl turnovers and limiting Bryn Mawr to just 28 percent shooting for the game.

It's a quick turnaround for the Garnet, who will host Ursinus on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
