Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Behind a career performance from senior Madeline Ross, the Swarthmore College (11-2, 7-1) women's basketball team dominated visiting Dickinson (8-5, 4-5) for a 73-51 victory in Centennial Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Ross – entering Saturday's game shooting under ten percent from beyond the arc – finished hitting 7-for-12 threes en route to a career-high 30-point performance. Ross was a thorn in the Red Devils' side in the first half, scoring 26 of Swarthmore's 45 points.
Swarthmore made 10 three-pointers to match its season-best, while shooting 34.5 percent beyond the arc which is its second-best on the season.
Katie Lytle finished with her seventh double-double on the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Elle Larsen notched 13 points and nine rebounds along with three steals and four blocks.
Seniors Bridget Borgese and Belma Mekic finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Dana Walsh went 6-for-6 at the line, while Borgese went 5-for-6 as Dickinson shot 82.4 percent on the day at the stripe.
After the Red Devils opened with a 7-3 lead with two free throws from Walsh at 16:52, the score remained tight through the opening 10 minutes of play. The Garnet took the lead at the 14:57 mark with a jumper from Ross and held the advantage through the finish.
With the score at 15-14 Swarthmore, Ross hit three straight treys to put the Garnet ahead 24-14, which set the tone for the final nine minutes of play. The home team finished the half on a 7-0 run that included two jumpers from Ross and a three-pointer from senior Eliza Polli to set the score at 45-23 heading into the break.
Swarthmore maintained a 20-point difference for much of the final frame. Ross was held quiet in the second, but contributed four steals in the opening six minutes. Larsen came alive for the Garnet with 10 points and seven rebounds in the final twenty minutes.
Despite shooting 41.7 percent from the field in the second half, Dickinson couldn't find the momentum to catch up to the Garnet.
Freshman Isabella Bellezza contributed a trey and jumper, while sophomore Chastity Hopkins hit a free throw to close out all scoring, giving Swarthmore the conference victory.
The Garnet will travel to Bryn Mawr on Tuesday, January 15th for a 5 p.m. tip-off with the Owls.
