BALTIMORE - Johns Hopkins' Sydney Teng scored a pair of goals early in the second half to give the No. 17 Blue Jays a 2-0 victory over the Swarthmore College women's soccer team (5-3, 2-1) on Sunday afternoon from Homewood Field.

The loss marks the Garnet's first Centennial Conference defeat of the 2012 season and snaps the team's four-match winning streak.

The visiting Garnet out-played the Blue Jays (7-2-1) for the majority of the first half. Swarthmore recorded the first four shots of the game, as junior Amber Famiglietti (2) sophomore Emma Sindelar and freshman Melissa Trofa all just missed in the game's first 15 minutes. In the 27th minute, Trofa put a shot on target but was denied by the Blue Jays' goalkeeper Meredith Maguire.

Hopkins managed just one shot on goal in first half, as Hannah Kronick's shot on frame in the 26th minute was saved by Garnet goalkeeper Reba Magier. The two teams entered the halftime break deadlocked at 0-0.

The momentum quickly swung in the Blue Jays' favor to start the second half. Just seconds into the second stanza, Johns Hopkins' Sydney Teng fired on goal, only to be denied by Magier. Undaunted, Teng collected the rebound scored from three-yards out on her second attempt, putting the Blue Jays ahead 1-0.

Following Teng's score, Swarthmore came close to finding the equalizer on two occasions in the next 15 minutes. Just 40 seconds after the Blue Jays' score, junior Megan Brock fired on net but was turned away by the Hopkins' goalkeeper. Sindelar had a scoring attempt in the 60th minute, but her shot was also saved by Maguire.

In the 62nd, Teng got into the scoring act again to give the Blue Jays a two-goal advantage. With an assist from Jenny Hall, Teng scored a left-footed goal from 18-yards out to give Johns Hopkins the 2-0 lead.

Trying to cut into the two-goal deficit, Swarthmore managed four shots - two on-goal - in the final 10 minutes of play, but it was not enough as the Blue Jays hung on for the 2-0 win.

Magier was strong in net for the Garnet, recording seven saves against the potent Hopkins' offense. Maguire made five saves in goal for the Blue Jays.

Swarthmore returns to action Wednesday evening when it hosts Washington College. Play is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
