Men's Cross Country Takes Top 11 Places at Season-Opening Bryn Mawr Invitational

Media, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's cross country team had a strong showing in Saturday's season-opening Bryn Mawr Invitational, posting the top 11 times on the day.

Top returner and senior Jacob Phillips placed first in the 5,000 meter race in 18:05.00 with senior Aidan DuMont-McCaffrey (18:05.01) and junior Robert Fain (18:05.02) finishing right behind him. Juniors Dan Kalamarides and Stuart Russell, who placed fifth and sixth respectively, also finished only one one-hundredth of a second apart (18:06.00, 18:06.01).
Several underclassmen also performed well as first-years Dominic Castro-Wehr (6th, 18:07.00), Paul Green (7th, 18:27.00), Spencer Friske (9th, 18:36.00) and sophomores Erik White (8th, 18:31.00), Jorin Schug (10th, 19:16.00) and Jonas Oppenheimer (11th, 19:17.00) rounded out the top 11 for the Garnet.
In the field, freshman Bennett Thompson finished 16th (20:17.00) and sophomore Samiul Haque placed 22nd (21:34.00). Seniors Eric Verhasselt (29th, 22:09.00), Aaron Moser (34th, 23:10.00), and Travis Mattingly (44th, 25:55.00) brought up the rear for Swarthmore in the 49-runner field.
