Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College field hockey team dropped its second straight game on Thursday afternoon to non-conference opponent Lebanon Valley by a score of 2-0, as the Dutchmen scored two early first-half goals.
Lebanon Valley (5-4) gathered an early lead at the 3:01 mark with a shot just inside the circle from senior midfielder Mandi Albright it what would become the game-winning shot for the Dutchmen. At 15:35, Lauren Brumbach cushioned the lead with a lob shot that bounced into the lower left hand side.
The first stanza ended with a 12-3 shot advantage for Lebanon Valley, as Swarthmore (6-4) was unable to make any good scoring opportunities.
Early in the second half freshman forward Erin Gluck looked for her third goal of the season with a one-on-one opportunity with goalkeeper Chloe Baro, but Gluck met the goalie just inside the circle before getting a clear shot on target. Baro ended the afternoon with three saves for Lebanon Valley.
Gabby Capone, the junior goalkeeper for the Garnet, held up strong in the second half to keep the Dutchmen from increasing the scoring margin. In the 57th minute of play Capone made back-to-back saves, including a one-on-one with Albright, who was looking for her second goal of the game. Capone made a total of eight saves for Swarthmore, playing for all 70 minutes.
The Dutchmen held a 20-6 shot advantage in the game, while both teams each had eight penalty corner attempts.
Swarthmore will return to Centennial Conference action this Sunday as it travels to Johns Hopkins for a 3:00 p.m. match.
