SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Visiting Stevens used a long-distance goal from Quinn Connor in the 100th minute of play to stun the Swarthmore College men's soccer team by a score of 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday evening from Clothier Field Stadium.

With the match less than 60 seconds away from a second overtime, Connor blasted what appeared to be an innocent ball towards the net from 30 yards out. Garnet goalkeeper Peter Maxted - who made six saves and was superb all match - made a play on the ball and slipped on the wet turf, allowing Connor's ball to reach the back of the net, giving the Ducks the come-from-behind win.

Sophomore Michael Stewart scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the second minute to give the Garnet (5-1-0) the early advantage. The Ducks (5-2-0) leveled the score in the 43rd minute on a penalty kick goal from Victor Daza.

The loss is the Garnet's first of the 2012 campaign.

Things could not have started off any better for the Garnet, as Stewart's strike put Swarthmore ahead less than two minutes into the match. Senior Brett McLarney and junior Joe Keedy set up Stewart's goal, as Keedy took McLarney's cross into the area and fired on target. His shot was saved, but Stewart was waiting for the rebound on the left wing, which he hammered home to put Swat ahead 1-0.

Despite the early deficit, the Ducks fought back, creating a majority of the scoring chances for the remainder of the half. Stevens almost leveled the score in both the 15th and 31st minutes, but were kept off the scoreboard thanks to a point-blank save from Maxted (15th minute) and an excellent goal-saving defensive play from senior captain John Pontillo (31st minute).

The Ducks finally found the equalizer in the 43rd minute, as a Garnet foul in the box set up a Stevens penalty kick. Victor Daza converted to make it a 1-1 contest right before the half.

The second half was evenly played, with the Garnet holding a slight 7-5 edge in shots. Swarthmore's best scoring chance came in the 83rd minute, as sophomore Michael Superdock headed a ball just wide right off an excellent free kick from Stewart.

Maxted finished the match with six saves. Stevens' Paul Killian turned away three shots.

Swarthmore and Stevens each finished with 12 shots for the match, with Ducks putting more on target (7-3). The Garnet finished with a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

Swarthmore looks to rebound on Saturday when defending Centennial Conference champion Dickinson comes to Clothier Field. Play is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
