SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Sophomore Karl Barkley poured in a career-high 26 points and four other players reached double-digits as the streaking Swarthmore College men's basketball team (3-6, 2-3) defeated visiting Delaware Valley 81-72 on Wednesday evening from Tarble Pavilion.

The victory is the Garnet's third consecutive to close out the semester, equaling the program's best winning streak since the start of the 2010-11 season.

Junior Jay Kober recorded a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Joe Keedy finished with 15 points, junior Jordan Federer added 12 points and senior Will Gates added 11 points for the victors.

Jay Donovan led the Aggies (4-4) with 20 points.

Barkley was deadly from behind the arc, connecting on six-of-seven attempts. For the game, he finished eight-of-11 from the field and four-of-five from the free-throw line.

The Garnet once again were dominant on the glass, out-rebounding the Aggies 47-32.

Trailing 30-21 with just over five minutes to play in the first half, the Garnet flipped a switch and changed the momentum for the entire game.  Behind five points from Gates and four from Federer, Swarthmore out-scored the Aggies 12-0 to finish the first half, taking a 33-30 lead into the locker room.

Thanks to some prolific outside shooting, the maintained the lead throughout the opening 10 minutes of the second half. With 10 minutes remaining in the game, Barkley doubled the Garnet's lead in a matter of moments. With the Garnet ahead 55-49, Barkley buried his fifth triple of the game to make it 58-49. Just seconds later following and Aggie miss, Barkley drilled another three-pointer in transition, giving Swarthmore its largest lead of the game at 61-49 with 9:54 to play.

From that point on, the Garnet held a comfortable advantage. Still - just like it did in Saturday's win at Gettysburg -  it got interesting in the final minutes. The Aggies press forced three turnovers over a 90-second span in the final three minutes of play, trimming the Swarthmore advantage to six points (74-68) with 1:22 to go.

But also reminiscent of the Gettysburg game, the Garnet quelled the late rally at the foul line. Made free throws from Gates, Federer and Keedy in the final minute put the Garnet ahead for good, closing out the 81-72 win.

With his 11 points, Gates became just the fifth player in program history and just the 25th player in Centennial Conference history to eclipse the 1,400-point plateau.

Swarthmore takes a two-week break and returns to action on Saturday, December 29 at nationally-ranked St. Mary's (Md.) in the Seahawk Classic. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
