SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Four players finished in double-figures for visiting Connecticut College, leading the Camels (1-1) past the Swarthmore College men's basketball team by a score of 76-62 in the final game of the Equinox Classic on Saturday afternoon in Tarble Pavilion.

Senior Will Gates led the Garnet (0-2) with 20 points. Freshman Seth Liebert tallied 15 points off the bench while junior Jay Kober added 14.

Jared Shill led the Camels with 20 points, followed by Matt Vadas (18 points), John Bullitt (12 points) and Aaron McBurnie (10 points).

The key factor in the game was shooting; the Camels connected on nearly half of their shots (49.1) while the Garnet struggled to find any rhythm all day, shooting just 28 percent.

The game was tight for the opening 12 minutes of play. Led by Kober - who scored 10 of the Garnet's 12 points over a three-minute stretch - Swarthmore trailed the Camels 24-23 with just over eight minutes remaining in the half. But over those final eight minutes of the half, the Connecticut College offense began to heat up right when the Garnet's offense went ice cold.

Led by six points from Shill, five from Vadas and a suffocating defensive effort that held Swarthmore to just one field goal over that span, the Camels finished the half on a 19-4 run to take a commanding 45-27 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, Swarthmore tried to cut into the Conn College lead, but to little avail. The Camels took care of business at the free-throw line (8-of-12) and finished off the 76-62 win.

Sophomore Davis Ancona finished with a team-high seven rounds, four of which came on the offensive end.

Gates finished 12-of-13 from the charity stripe.

For his efforts, Kober was named to the All-Equinox Team.

Swarthmore opens Centennial Conference play on Tuesday with a trip to Dickinson. Play is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
