TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Swarthmore College senior Jacob Phillips finishes his Garnet career on a high note with a 57th place finish at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship Saturday morning at the LaVern Gibsonn Course hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Phillips ran among an elite field of 276 individual runners, recording an 8k time of 25:22.4. The senior finished ahead of many Centennial Conference competitors from Johns Hopkins, Dickinson, and Haverford.
Individually, senior Tim Nelson of Wisconsin-Stout won the 8k, clocking a time of 24:26.8. North Central took its second consecutive the team title (167 points) followed by Calvin (188) and Haverford (189).
Phillips has competed in the NCAA championship back-to-back seasons and bettered his place by 57 spots this year (114th in 2011).
