SWARTHMORE, Pa. - A goal from Gettysburg's Tara Crowley just before the end of the first half proved to be the difference as the Bullets defeated the Swarthmore College women's soccer team 1-0 on Saturday evening from Clothier Field Stadium.

In net for the Garnet (6-4, 3-2), freshman Reba Magier made six saves while sophomore Emma Sindelar led the offense with three shots.

The match of significant Centennial Conference importance was evenly-played throughout, with the Bullets (8-3, 4-1) holding just a slight advantage in shots (11-9) and shots on goal (7-4). Both teams had plenty of scoring chances in the first half, but only Crowley was able to find the back of the net.

Swarthmore's best chance by far came in the 26th minute, when an open Sindelar beat the Gettysburg's defense and then the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation, but struck the crossbar.

Thanks to five crucial first-half saves from Magier - including two diving stops - the match remained scoreless until 90 seconds before the halftime whistle. In the 44th minute, a deflected pass from Gettysburg's Lindsey Lyons bounced right to Crowley in stride. She took the ball and pulled up from  12-yards out, hit a bending ball that went right over Magier's head into the far post for the score.

With the 1-0 advantage, the Bullets did their best to protect the lead throughout the second half. The Garnet's best scoring chances came in the 65th and 68th minutes. In the 65th minute, freshman Emily Gale hit a laser from the left wing, but was denied by the Bullets' goalkeeper Eliza Gray. In the 68th minute, Sindelar almost leveled the score, as her flick shot took an awkward bounce over the head of Gray, who was forced to make a last-second play to save a goal.

Unfortunently for Swarthmore, the shots from Gale and Sindelar were its last of the match, as the Bullets controlled possession down the stretch to hang on for the 1-0 victory.

Swarthmore returns to action Thursday when it hosts Dickinson in a rescheduled match from Sept. 22. Action for the important Centennial Conference match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
