Kedar, Herrin Earn Centennial Weekly Honors

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Swarthmore College baseball team swept the Centennial Conference weekly awards this week with Leor Kedar and David Herrin earning Player and Pitcher of the Week honors respectively.

Kedar garnered his first career Centennial Player of the Week selection after hitting .556 (10-for-18) with a 1.571 OPS over a 3-1 week for the Garnet. He totaled two doubles, two home runs, seven RBIs, four runs, one walk, and one stolen base. The sophomore opened the week by going 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and a stolen base in a 10-1 win versus NYU. In game one of a doubleheader against 16th-ranked Case Western Reserve, Kedar went 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBIs, and a run scored, recording a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to give Swarthmore a 3-2 comeback victory. In game three of the Garnet's series with the Spartans, Kedar went 5-for-5 at the plate with another homer, a walk, two RBIs, and three runs to spark a 7-6 triumph in 11 innings. He scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the ninth and the winning run in the 11th.

Herrin is the third straight Swarthmore athlete to be named Centennial Pitcher of the Week. He pitched 5.1 total innings of relief over two games against 16th-ranked Case Western Reserve, holding the Spartans scoreless and earning the win in both contests as the Garnet picked up a pair of walk-off victories. In game one of a doubleheader, the sophomore came in with two outs in the seventh and his team down a run. He proceeded to shut out CWRU the rest of the way, scattering three hits and striking out one, allowing the Swarthmore offense to come back for a walk-off 3-2 win in the ninth. The next day in game three of the series with the Spartans, Herrin entered for the ninth with his team down a run once again. He sat down the first seven hitters he faced before hitting a batter in the 11th. He recovered to get a groundball double-play to end the inning. The Garnet tied the game in the ninth to force extras and won it in the 11th, 7-6.

Swarthmore plays two games on Tuesday in Lexington, S.C. The Garnet take on Mitchell College and Marietta College.
