Women’s Track Places Eighth at CC Championships, Earning Two More Medals

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's track & field team placed eighth overall to finish up the Centennial Conference Championships on Sunday. Elizabeth Page and Tate Garcia both grabbed medals to headline the final day of indoor championships. 

Page raced to a runner-up finish in the mile to earn her first collegiate individual medal. The sophomore also broke a program record in the 3000m run, taking down a nine-year-old mark. Garcia medaled in the shot put for the second-straight year. The senior battled to bronze in the event to headline a pair of Swarthmore throwers inside the top-five. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
- Page took home silver in the mile, finishing at 5:06.48. The sophomore earned her first career individual medal, improving on a ninth-place finish at last year's meet. Rica Eleches-Lipsitz raced to a top-10 finish in the event, placing ninth with a personal best of 5:23.27. Bella Thoen also achieved a personal best at 5:30.86, securing 12th overall. 

- Garcia finished third overall in the shot put to earn a bronze medal. The senior unleashed a throw of 12.26m on her third attempt to earn her way onto the podium. Briana Eugene also impressed in her championship debut, throwing a top distance of 11.61m to finish in fifth place. Aislinn Comerford was tenth in the event at 10.73m. 

- After claiming silver in the mile, Page placed fifth and took down a program record in the 3000m run. The sophomore finished at 10:11.17 to eclipse Indy Reid-Shaw's record from 2017. Olivia Montini also raced to a personal best in the event, finishing at 10:27.05 to grab eighth. The Swarthmore duo were the only non-Hopkins runners to earn points. 

- Caroline Hill was seventh in the high jump, clearing a top height of 1.44m. The junior passed the top mark on her first attempt. 

- Gabby Bredbenner was seventh overall in the 200m dash to earn a pair of points for the Garnet. The rookie finished at 26.65 to set a new personal best. She also earned personal best in the 400m dash, finishing at 1:01.96 in 15th overall. 

- Rebekah Gendler earned a point in the long jump. The sophomore finished eighth overall with a top effort of 4.83m. 

- Ania Wong took 11th place in the 800m run. The sophomore finished at 2:24.40 to place a few tenths of a second outside the top-10.

The Garnet finish off the indoor season at the Tufts Final Qualifier on Saturday.
